About Us
Originally a Trailways station in the 1950's, the Town Pump has been a local landmark in the Black Mountain area. On display around the tavern are old beer cans, stuffed critters, and a bar-back that is 100 years old! For fun we have four dartboards, a killer jukebox, and a foosball table. If you want to test your luck you can try to throw a dollar bill so it will stick to the 14-foot high ceiling, along with the other faded dollar bills that prove it can be done.

Proprietors Dan and Kristi Johnston took over the Pump in October 2000 and have been delivering the music and the beer to the thirsty masses ever since. The couple keeps the rustic tavern alive and kicking with guaranteed original music, the finest regional microbrews, fashionable Town Pump memorabilia (t-shirts and hats available), and a laid back atmosphere. One of the oldest running music rooms in the county, the Town Pump supports original music. No cover bands here folks! An array of artists and bands playing original music genres consisting of Americana, Bluegrass, Honky Tonk, and the Blues, can be heard 5 nights a week. On Wednesdays, anyone can play and sing at Open Mic Night, hosted by our very own Parker Brooks. And on Sundays the Bluegrass Jam offers a chance for the area's musicians to get together and pick. The Jukebox plays the best tunes of all time, when the stage is empty. The good music abounds at the Town Pump.
